With its growing economy and burgeoning young population, our country desperately needs to create more jobs. Thus, entrepreneurship is the need of the hour.
At Kautilya Vidyalaya, we believe in creating leaders and entrepreneurs rather than job seekers. Hence, we organise the annual event, Vanijya Vihar’, through which we seek to sow the seeds of entrepreneurship in our students’ minds, so that they may germinate under favourable conditions.
As part of the activity, high school students set up stalls and sell homemade food, handmade accessories and arrange original games. Families of students and members of public play the role of consumers. Students create a Profit and Loss statement based on their capital investment and earnings. Thus, they learn the nitty-gritties of setting up and sustaining a business, as also attracting and retaining customers.
Stalls are set up based on a common theme. Students avail the unique opportunity of mentorship, wherein real-life entrepreneurs guide them on business profitability, communication and ethics.
We seek to encourage students to create a viable business while heeding ethics, social and environmental responsibility. Students are primed on fair practices and transparent dealings. Nearly 50% of the sale proceeds are donated to worthy charitable causes. Only biodegradable materials are used for personal hygiene, packaging and waste disposal. Thus, Vanijya Vihar is a comprehensive life skill building event.
